Police investigate death of Lyme woman after medical emergency in state forest

East Lyme — State Environmental Conservation Police are investigating the death of a 32-year-old woman who had a medical emergency in Nehantic State Forest on Sunday evening.

Bethany DuPuis, a Lyme resident, had entered the forest from Holmes Road with a male companion when she began having respiratory problems and convulsions, Dennis Schain, spokesman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, said Wednesday in an email message.

The man called East Lyme 911 about 8:30 p.m. East Lyme ambulance crews responded and took DuPuis to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, where she was pronounced dead at 9:41 p.m. Sunday, Schain said.

DEEP EnCon police were alerted to the situation and are investigating the circumstances of the death, Schain said. No charges have been filed thus far against anyone in this matter, he said.
