New London — City police, in conjunction with Waterford police, are increasing efforts this week to catch drivers who are drunk, distracted, speeding or committing other traffic violations.
Patrol officers from both departments will be designated to roam the area during all shifts, according to police.
City police also will establish a sobriety checkpoint Thursday on Water Street.
Police are asking those who intend to consume alcohol to designate a driver, and those who see a suspected drunken or hazardous driver to call 911.
