Early morning fire badly damages Norwich office complex on Route 82
Norwich — A fire that broke out at an office complex on Route 82 early Saturday morning badly damaged the two-story building, which houses several businesses.
No one was inside the building at 598 West Main Street when around 3:30 a.m. the fire started, according to East Great Plain Volunteer Fire Department Chief Keith Milton, who said it took firefighters several hours to extinguish the fire. The roof of the building seemed to sustain the heaviest damage.
There were fire personnel on scene most of the day. A building inspector was on scene by mid-afternoon and an excavator was due to arrive later Saturday.
Milton said the Norwich fire marshal, state fire marshal and Norwich Police Department were working to determine where the fire started and the cause.
