New London — A man was hospitalized early Tuesday after he allegedly attempted suicide while in custody at the New London Police Department.

Police said the suicide attempt took place about 2 a.m. A crew took the man to the hospital immediately after police located him. He remains in serious condition, according to police.

Police said the man was being held on domestic violence charges.

Police notified the New London State Attorney's Office and the state police Major Crime Squad, which is the primary investigating agency, of the incident.
