Firefighters contain fire at Groton laundromat
Groton — A laundromat sustained smoke and possibly some water damage Thursday following a fire that appears to have started near a dryer.
The Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department responded about 5 p.m. to the Super Saver Laundromat at 712 Long Hill Road, in the Groton Plaza Shopping Center, for reports of smoke.
Poquonnock Bridge Fire Chief Joe Winski said the fire was showing when firefighters arrived but it mostly was contained to the vicinity of a dryer, with some extension to the roof of the building.
Winski said it was the second fire at the business in the last three months. The cause remains under investigation.
Poquonnock Bridge was joined by the Mystic, Submarine Base and New London fire departments, along with medics from Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and Groton Ambulance.
