Waterford police charge New York man with having counterfeit hundred-dollar bills

Waterford — A New York man is facing forgery, larceny, and criminal impersonation charges after Waterford police said they found him outside the Crystal Mall with more than $1,100 in cash and $1,000 in counterfeit hundred-dollar bills.

Police arrested Tyresse Giddeon of Brooklyn, New York, on Tuesday afternoon after they received a report that counterfeit money was being used at stores in the Crystal Mall in Waterford.

Officers said they found Giddeon in the mall’s parking lot, where he briefly ran from them. Giddeon, 18, initially provided false information about his name before Waterford police use his fingerprints to determine his identify.

Police also are looking for a second person, a black woman with red highlights in her hair, who is a suspect in the case.

The United States Secret Service, which investigates cases of counterfeit currency, assisted Waterford police.

Gideon was charged with fourth-degree larceny, eleven counts of first-degree forgery, criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer, possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana and two counts of criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Police also have applied for a search warrant to investigate the contents of Gideon’s car and expect to make additional charges in the case.

Giddeon was held on a $100,000 bond and is expected to appear in New London Superior Court.
