Norwich man charged with DUI after spinning out in middle of Route 2
Ledyard — The man behind the wheel of a vehicle that completed a 360-degree spinout in the middle of Route 2 Saturday was intoxicated, according to police.
Byron T. Gomez-Rodriguez, 30, of 5E Baltic St., Norwich, was charged Saturday with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving without insurance, driving without a license and failure to drive right.
According to police, officers observed the spinout in the westbound lanes of Route 2 about 2:24 a.m. After spinning his car in a circle, police said Gomez-Rodriguez then drove across the double yellow center line and nearly collided with the cement barriers bordering the eastbound travel lanes.
Police quickly stopped the vehicle and learned Gomez-Rodriguez was behind the wheel.
Police said a standardized field sobriety test revealed Gomez-Rodriguez was not sober.
Release on a $500 nonsurety bond, Gomez-Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court May 18.
