Groton — A city police corporal who was arrested Wednesday at a North Stonington residence has been placed on administrative leave.

State police charged 31-year-old Katie Elizabeth Ellis, of 8 Maid Marion Drive, Gales Ferry, with fourth-degree criminal mischief, breach of peace and third-degree assault in connection with the incident.

According to a summary of the arrest, troopers responded to a residence on Jeremy Hill Road in North Stonington about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday for a “non-active disturbance.”

The summary lists a 41-year-old as the victim, but doesn't detail the incident.

Reached by phone Friday afternoon, state police Master Sgt. Donna Tadiello said Ellis was charged with third-degree assault because she allegedly physically injured the victim during the altercation. Tadiello described the injury as minor.

Tadiello said Ellis' criminal mischief charge stemmed from the allegation that she also damaged multiple items belonging to the victim.

Acting Groton City police Chief Mike Guillot said Ellis wasn’t on duty at the time of the incident. The department confiscated her badge and gun and placed her on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the case, Guillot said.

Ellis, a Ledyard High School graduate, joined Groton City police in 2009.

Released on a $500 nonsurety bond and arraigned Thursday morning, she is next due in New London Superior Court on Tuesday. Court clerks said there was no lawyer listed for Ellis.
