East Lyme police charge man with larceny

East Lyme — Town police said they charged a man last Saturday with third-degree larceny after responding to 468 Main St. for a report of a car taken without the owners' permission.

Police said in their report that David H. Tiffany, 21, of 120 Sterling Road, Lyme, was "highly intoxicated" the previous evening and found an unlocked vehicle to sleep in. In the morning, he drove the vehicle back to the establishment where he was a patron the previous evening. The report did not disclose the location of the establishment.

Police said he then returned the vehicle to the owners and remained on scene. After an investigation, police determined that Tiffany had stolen a Chevrolet Suburban, according to the police report.

Tiffany was released on a $500 nonsurety bond and is scheduled to appear Aug. 18 in New London Superior Court, the report states.
