Police: Woman charged with DUI after almost colliding with Stonington cruiser

Stonington — Police arrested a Pawcatuck woman and charged her with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs early Monday morning after they say she drove into the oncoming lane and almost struck a police cruiser.

Joyce E. Allen, 56, of 55 William St., first floor, also was charged with failure to drive right after the 2:57 a.m. incident.

According to police, an officer was driving north on Liberty Street, just north of the Route 1 intersection, when Allen, who was driving south, crossed the double yellow line into the officer’s lane, almost colliding with his cruiser.

Police said Allen failed field sobriety tests. She was taken into custody and later released on a $600 bond. She is slated to appear Sept. 12 in New London Superior Court.
