UPDATED: Foot chase in New London yields two arrests

New London — Police on Monday morning arrested two people and recovered a firearm after a foot chase through the city.

The pursuit began around 11:39 a.m. near Blackhall and Williams streets and Mountain Avenue, when Richard Dunham, 29, of 28 McKinley Ave., Norwich, fled from police. New London Police Department narcotics officers were helping state probation officers serve a warrant for violation of probation to him.

As police chased Dunham, they came into contact in the area of Prest Street and Mountain Avenue with a city resident, Jovan Gills, 29, of 50 Georgiana St., who also led police in a foot chase.

Police said they located Gills under the porch of a nearby residence and found a firearm, a Cobra .380 semi-auto., and marijuana packaged for sale.

Police then located Dunham and charged him with violation of probation and interfering with an officer, according to the police report.

Gills was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, interfering with an officer, and third-degree criminal trespass.
