New London police receive $22,100 for DUI enforcement

New London — City police have received a boost in the form of $22,100 to put toward DUI enforcement over the next several months.

According to police, the grant money comes from the state Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office. The extra funding will help the city staff additional officers for DUI and traffic enforcement on various holidays from this month through September next year. Police also will be able to bolster their ongoing targeted efforts to reduce crashes in the city.

Acting Chief Peter Reichard, Community Service Officer Ryan Soccio and grant coordinator Elizabeth Nocera worked together to obtain the grant.
