Police: Norwich man struck pedestrian in Windham crash

Windham — State police are investigating a crash in which a Norwich man allegedly struck a pedestrian while driving on state Route 32 Wednesday night.

The crash happened near the intersection of Old Plains Road about 7 p.m. According to police, 70-year-old William Sawicki, of 39 Andrea Lane, Norwich, was driving his Toyota Tacoma south around a curve when the front of his truck struck a pedestrian walking on Route 32.

It isn’t clear from the report where the pedestrian, 31-year-old David Wyman of Willimantic, was standing when he was hit.

Police said crews took Wyman to Windham Hospital for the treatment of what appeared to be minor injuries. According to police, Wyman later was airlifted to Hartford Hospital for further evaluation.

Hartford Hospital officials on Thursday morning said they had no patient by the name of David Wyman.

Police said Sawicki wasn’t injured in the collision. His truck sustained minor damage to its front passenger side and didn’t need to be towed.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Trooper Patrick Kokoszka of Troop K at (860) 465-5400, ext. 4030.
