    East Lyme traffic stop results in drug charges for New London man

    East Lyme — Officers arrested a 24-year-old Tuesday after they pulled him over for a minor traffic violation and allegedly found more than 3 ounces of marijuana in his car.

    Jacob Benjamin Monahan, of 35 Hall Ave., New London, is the accused. According to police, officers stopped him near the intersection of Chesterfield and Bluebird roads about 1:30 a.m. Police said officers smelled an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and subsequently searched it.

    According to police, the search netted more than 3 ounces of marijuana, liquid THC, a hypodermic needle, scales, glassine bags, other drug paraphernalia and $270 in cash.

    Police charged Monahan with possession of more than a half-ounce of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 of a school and five counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Held on a $5,000 bond, Monahan was due to appear Tuesday morning in New London Superior Court.
