Police: $7,500 worth of jewelry stolen from North Stonington home

North Stonington — The town's resident troopers are investigating the reported theft of $7,500 worth of jewelry from a home on Thursday afternoon, according to a news release from state police.

About 2 p.m., a man approached a North Stonington home claiming to work for a power company, police said. He told the homeowner the company was replacing a transformer and needed to put up a temporary pole, and he asked her where the property line was.

The owner and the man walked about 500 feet from the home to the property line, police said, and the man was communicating via walkie-talkie as they walked.

The homeowner told police the man left in a white sedan, and she then found that about $7,500 worth of jewelry was missing from the house.

Anyone with information is asked to contact state police Troop E at (860) 848-6500 or the North Stonington Police Department at (860) 535-1451.
