Black Wolves select Cornell's Lintner in first round of NLL Draft

Mohegan — The New England Black Wolves chose Dan Lintner of Cornell with their first-round pick in the 2015 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft on Monday in Toronto, grabbing Lintner eighth overall.

A 5-foot-9 forward, Lintner finished his career with 88 goals and 96 points in 51 games. He had 47 goals as a junior, the 10th-highest single-season goal total in Big Red history. This past season, he finished with 30 goals, including eight multiple-goal games.

“It’s a dream come true growing up and it finally happened,” Lintner said via a press release. “When you start playing lacrosse, this is what you want to do. You want to get here. It’s pretty exciting.”

A native of Courtice, Ontario, Lintner played in the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League for the Whitby Warriors, leading the team in scoring during the 2010-11 season. He was a three-time selection to the Ontario Box all-star team, while winning four Ontario Box championships and three Team Ontario Lacrosse Box Gold championships. In 16 games with the Brooklin Redmen in the MSL in 2015, Lintner scored 19 goals and dished out 25 assists.

Other selections for the Black Wolves were: Mike MacDonald of Princeton (22nd overall), Philip Caputo (28th) and Brooker Muir (37th) of the Brampton Excelsiors, Ryan MacSpadyen of the Toronto Beaches and Jordi Jones-Smith of the Whitby Warriors (48th).

The Black Wolves open the 2016 season Jan. 9 in Vancouver before returning for their home opener against the Calgary Roughnecks on Friday, Jan. 15 at Mohegan Sun Arena.
