Subcontractor dies from injuries suffered by power saw

Woonsocket, R.I. — Public safety workers say a 67-year-old man has died after he was severely injured by a power saw while working on a home renovation project in Rhode Island.

The Call reports escue workers say the man on Oct. 19 severed a major artery in his leg with a circular hand saw while working in a remote part of a Woonsocket home. His co-workers apparently did not know of any problem for at least several minutes.

The Woonsocket man was taken to Landmark Medical Center after resuscitation attempts. Woonsocket fire officials say they were notified the man died at the hospital last Wednesday.

A police spokeswoman declined to identify the victim without clearance from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration. OSHA is investigating the incident.
