Beardsley Zoo opens new habitat for 2 red pandas

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Two red pandas at the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport have some roomier new living quarters.

The red pandas, Rochan and Meri, have a new habitat that includes air conditioning and an outdoor yard with open viewing for visitors.

The zoo opened the new habitat to the public on Saturday. It was built with help from private donations.

Red pandas are slightly larger than domestic cats and have bear-like bodies with thick, reddish fur.

The zoo holds about 300 animals representing mainly North and South American species.
