Police: Windsor man attacked officer in escape attempt

MIDDLETOWN (AP) — Authorities say a Windsor man is in police custody after he attacked an officer in an escape attempt.

The Hartford Courant reports 39-year-old Jevon Parrish was charged with assault on public safety personnel, escape from custody and related crimes.

Police say Parrish struck Cromwell police Officer Jeremy Perlini so hard the officer lost consciousness. Perlini suffered cuts, bruises, blurred vision and other symptoms.

Police received a complaint Friday evening about a car driving erratically in Cromwell. Police pursued the car but lost it. Parrish was determined to be the driver and was later caught.

Parrish said during booking he needed medical attention so he was taken to the hospital in Middletown. He asked to use the restroom there, which is when he struck Perlini.

It's unclear whether he has an attorney.
