17-year-old facing felony charge in fatal hit-and-run crash

GREENWICH (AP) — A 17-year-old Greenwich man has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian dead.

Police say an investigation into the April 17 crash identified Andrew Schmidt as the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed Edward Setterberg, of Cos Cob.

Police say the 43-year-old Setterberg was walking on East Putnam Avenue around 11 p.m. when he was hit. The vehicle was eventually located by police and seized.

Schmidt was arrested Thursday. He faces a felony charge of evading responsibility following an accident resulting in a fatality. He was released on $100,000 bond.

He's due in Stamford Superior Court on June 2.

Online records don't list a phone number for Schmidt. It's unclear whether he has a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.
