CHICOPEE, Mass. (AP) — Fire officials say they're investigating a suspicious brush fire that ripped through an estimated 30 acres of vacant land near the Massachusetts Turnpike in Chicopee.
Firefighters were called to the fire around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. Deputy Fire Chief Wayne Lemay tells The Republican newspaper that the brush fire started in the vacant Air Park South, which is bordered by Chicopee State Park, Westover Air Reserve Base and the Massachusetts Turnpike.
The blaze was contained around 11 a.m. It's unclear if there were any injuries.
Lemay says lightning and car sparks have been ruled out as causes.
