Man arrested after sideswiping Connecticut police cruiser
GUILFORD, Conn. — Connecticut state police have arrested a Hamden man after he allegedly struck a cruiser with his car on Interstate 95 in Guilford.
The cruiser was stopped in the left lane Saturday night with its emergency lights activated to close a travel lane so passengers on a disabled bus could move to another bus. A police report said 48-year-old Genaro Javier Claussels sideswiped the cruiser, nearly striking a trooper who was getting road flares out of the trunk. Police said Claussels stopped briefly, but then left the scene.
Police said Claussels' vehicle broke down less than a mile away. He was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, evading responsibility and failure to yield to emergency vehicles.
Claussels is being held on a $10,000 bond pending an appearance in New Haven Superior Court Tuesday.
