Driver crashes into multi-family home in Rhode Island

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island officials say a driver may have accidentally hit the gas pedal before crashing into a multi-family home.

WPRI-TV reports the car jumped the curb Monday evening and crashed into the first floor of a home in Pawtucket. Second and third floor residents were evacuated from the building after the crash over concerns of its structural integrity.

A resident who lives across the street says no one was inside the first floor at the time of the crash. The driver's condition is unknown.

Residents were allowed to return to their homes after an inspector deemed the building structurally safe.

Police say the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
