One taken to hospital after New London fire
New London — One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation following a one-alarm fire in a two-family home Thursday night, New London fire Chief Tom Curcio said.
The fire broke out in a second-floor bedroom at 140 Connecticut Ave. and was reported at 8:57 p.m., Curcio said. Shortly after 9:30, he said the fire marshal would be arriving to investigate the cause. Also responding were representatives from Eversource and the American Red Cross.
No one was in the house by the time firefighters responded, and the blaze was knocked down in 15 minutes, Curio said.
Firefighters knocked out windows on the second and third floors, and Curcio said there was smoke, water and heat damage to the building.
A next-door neighbor said he heard the alarm and smelled an electrical fire, and called 911. He declined to give his name.
