3 months later, blizzard sets 1 record, another deleted

Last winter's East Coast blizzard has set another record in New York while a record in Newark, New Jersey, was deleted.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced the news Thursday after a review prompted by questions about the accuracy of snowfall measurements.

The agency says the 26.8-inch total reported for New York's Central Park will be changed to 27.5 inches, an all-time record.

But the report says the 28.1 inches reported as an all-time record at Newark Liberty International Airport was inflated by improper procedures. The agency is trying to determine an accurate total.

The report says suspicions about a 17.8-inch measurement at Reagan National Airport near Washington were unfounded. Although substantially lower than readings within the city, it was close to totals from nearby sites in northern Virginia.
