    Veteran restaurateur taking over Jamm's

Mystic — A longtime local restaurateur has been extensively renovating the former Jamms restaurant on Coogan Boulevard across from the Mystic Aquarium and will reopen the 140-seat dining facility in early March, renaming it The Mystic Boathouse.

John Hewes, who ran the Seahorse restaurant in Noank for 22 years, said today that he plans to fill a total of 25 to 30 positions at the restaurant, which he is opening with his partners, Steve and Mary Smyth of Mystic, and Susan Shepherd and Rick Fretard of Stonington.

The group bought the restaurant from the previous Jamms partnership, which closed up shop in October after 25 years in business.
