Kindness in Real Life: Six bicycles donated by Lefty Cycles Project
Last month, two residential programs at Sound Community Services in New London co-hosted a spring barbecue for residents, including food, music, games, graffiti art, sidewalk chalk and a motivational guest speaker, Dylan Howley, from The Lefty Cycles Project.
Sound Community Services and The Lefty Cycles Project are collaborating to help clients and residents. Founded by Dylan Howley in June 2020, The Lefty Cycles Project, a local nonprofit, helps by delivering bicycles for transportation, exercise, hobby, or sport.
During the event, Howley, orignally from New London, donated six bicycles on behalf of his team.
Rotary Club of the Stoningtons donates compostable meals
The Rotary Club of the Stoningtons recently donated 17 cases of compostable meal containers to the New London Community Meal Center. The Community Meal Center serves an estimated 75,000 meals a year, and Rotary of the Stoningtons has been assisting with meal prep at the Meal Center since March 2020 when the pandemic made it no longer possible to provide meals in a social setting.
The center shifted operations to provide meals to go in lieu of the usual sitdown lunches and dinners they had been providing six days a week at their downtown New London location.
The donation was made possible through a Rotary District 7980 Grant made available to support a local community project, assisted by club members Elaine Smith, Gina King and Donna Scherer, who worked on a more environmentally friendly solution to containers used by the Meal Center.
