Police: $1M worth of counterfeit goods found at Rhode Island yard sale

CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — Police in Rhode Island say they busted up a yard sale and seized counterfeit handbags, clothing and other merchandise that could have been sold in stores for an estimated $1 million. Three men were arrested.

Cranston police said the items found at the sale Friday were falsely marked as being made by Gucci, Cartier, Prada, Burberry, Versace and other designers. Detectives say they received a tip on Wednesday that a man would be selling a large quantity of counterfeit merchandise at the yard sale.

Authorities arrested Stephen Russell, Ryan Peirce and Robert Brown III, all of Pawtucket. They are charged with conspiracy, forgery and counterfeiting or alteration of trademark, service mark or identification mark.

It wasn't immediately clear if the men have lawyers who could respond to the allegations.
