    Shoreline Gymnastics' Presents First Eastern National Champion

    Sammie LeMire of Moodus competes at the gymnastics Connecticut State Championships, Regional Championships and the Eastern National Championships.

    Sammie LeMire is a Level 9 gymnast from Shoreline Gymnastics of Old Saybrook. Sammie started her gymnastic career at the age of 8 and has been a gymnast at Shoreline Gymnastics since the age of 3.

    On March 23rd Sammie competed in the Connecticut State Championships in Hamden, CT. She placed first floor and fourth on vault. Sammie also tied for fourth in the all around score.

    Sammie’s State Championship scores qualified her to compete at the Regional Championships that were held in Springfield, MA on April 13th. The Regional Championships are open to Level 8 to 10 gymnasts who achieve qualifying scores at their individual state championships. The Regional Championships are divided into 4 regions across the United States. At the Regionals, Sammie had an exceptional performance and placed first on bars, and beam. Sammie also placed first in the all around score.

    The qualifying gymnasts from Regional Championships compete at the Eastern or Western National Championships, depending on whether they reside East of the Mississippi River (Eastern Nationals) or west of the Mississippi River (Western Nationals). Sammie’s outstanding performance at the Regional Championships qualified her to compete at the Eastern National Championships that were held in Bradenton Florida from May 2-4th. Sammie achieved scores of greater than 9.0 on all four events (vault, bars, beam and floor) and placed 1st on the beam, 4th on the bars, 4th on the floor and first in the all around score.

    Sammie recently finished her senior year at Nathan Hale-Ray High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the Varsity Team Captain for the Hale-Ray gymnastics team. She earned All-State First Team honors all four years of high school and was awarded the Shoreline Conference Scholar Athlete award three years in a row. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering with Special Olympics. Sammie will attend Rhode Island College in the Fall where she will continue her gymnastics career at the collegiate level.
