Connecticut Lyric Opera stages "Madama Butterfly"

Two CLO favorites will sing the leads in “Madama Butterly,” Jurate Svedaite in the title role and Daniel Juarez as B.F. Pinkerton.

Connecticut Lyric Opera ends its season with a Puccini crowdpleaser: "Madama Butterfly."

The company has brought the production to New Britain and Woodstock and now performs it Friday at the Garde Arts Center before continuing on to Middletown and Waterbury next weekend.

"Madama Butterfly" details the tragic affair between an American naval officer and a naive geisha, and it boasts Butterfly's aria "Un bel dì," the Flower Duet, and the Humming Chorus.

Local favorite Jurate Svedaite sings the role of Cio-Cio San - Madama Butterfly, to you - and Daniel Juarez is B.F. Pinkerton.

The Connecticut Virtuosi Orchestra will perform, led by conductor Adrian Sylveen, and Antoni Sadlak Jaworski handles the stage direction.

The performance will be in Italian, with English supertitles.
