Before gun control, make public safer

I think I can sum up the debate about gun control with this. People who want to protect the Second Amendment view any infringement as a first step toward the elimination of their right to bear arms. It is not about reasonableness, or protecting the children or anything else, it is an erosion of an enshrined right.

If our politicians were interested in protecting anyone beyond themselves they would demand that convicted felons stay in jail for their entire sentence. They would eliminate reduced sentences for murderers, and rapists. They would seek speedy implementation of the death penalty for capital crime.

If our elected officials cared about our children, pedophiles would not get 2-year sentences for preying upon our youth.
