The Day overplayed ‘flag’ story
The Day’s recent front page headlines:
Oct 19,2022 - Stonington Schools Remove Pride Flags From Classrooms
Oct 20, 2022 - Stonington Teachers Respond To Pride Flag Removal
Oct 21, 2022 - Stonington Reverses Course On Pride Flag
Oct 26, 2022 - Stonington Votes To Allow Pride Flags Back In Classroom
Question? Are these the most important news headlines for The Day’s readers to be alert to? Or, is this The Day’s way of sensationalizing a story to drive an agenda? You decide.
The display of a specific flag, in a public space, that represents a particular race, religion or sex, often divides people and, subverts the intention of the inclusivity message meant to be sent .Organizations that make choices, such as the Pride flag decision made in Stonington, are on a slippery slope! What do you say the next time to another organization seeking race, religion, or sex inclusivity?
Truth be told, the American Flag is the only flag that recognizes inclusivity for all Americans and bias to none. In that fundamental interest, public officials need to assure the prominent presence of Old Glory in their spaces and stay away from the slippery slope of inclusivity by selectivity.
