Local roundup: Lyman beats Stonington in baseball
Lebanon — Owen Masse pitched three scoreless innings of relief to pick up the victory and the Lyman Memorial baseball team overcame a 3-0 deficit to beat Stonington 7-3 Wednesday.
Ben Darrow added a hit and three RBI and Nate Cone had two hits and a run scored for Lyman (1-1).
Stonington (1-1) scored one in the first inning and made it 3-0 with a two-run homer by Alex Starr in the third. Lyman tied it with three in the third and scored two each in the fifth and sixth innings.
In other games:
• Liam Cochrane went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs as East Lyme downed Montville, 17-3. Alex Dreyfus had three hits, including a double, with three RBI and a run, Gavin O’Brien and Joseph Wainwright both singled with three runs and an RBI and Quinn Killoy went 2-for-3, including a double, with two runs and an RBI for the Vikings (2-0). Also, Blake Biggs tripled with two RBI and a run, John Bureau had two runs and an RBI and Owen Elmer and Apolonio Montejano both singled with a run and an RBI.
• Brody Ericson had two hits, including a triple, with an RBI in Woodstock Academy’s 6-2 win over NFA. Connor Doyle had two RBI for NFA (1-1) while Ryan Cleary went 2-for-3, including a double.
• Colin Mitchell had two hits, including a triple, with two runs and two RBI in Griswold’s 8-3 win over Putnam. Kade Rubino had two hits, including a double, with two runs and an RBI for Griswold (1-1) and Drew Harding had two hits, including a double, with a run and an RBI.
• Santiago Rodriguez was 3-for-3 and drove in four runs as Old Lyme beat Westbrook 19-5. Ben Frazier had two hits and scored three runs and Owen Snurkowski drove in two runs for Old Lyme (2-0, 2-0), which scored 12 runs in the fourth inning.
• Mychal Dole had two hits and two runs as Grasso Tech scored 10 times in the fourth inning and downed Prince Tech, 16-2, in five innings. Rey Hidalgo had a double and an RBI for Grasso (1-1) and starter PJ Evans scattered three hits over 2.2 innings with four strikeouts and no runs.
• Wheeler lost its first game of the season, falling to Plainfield 3-2. James Main took the loss, but allowed just three hits over five innings with nine strikeouts. Kyle Kessler drove in a run for Wheeler (2-1).
• Mason Pingree pitched the final four innings in relief, striking out seven, to help lift Bacon Academy to a 7-3 victory over Stafford on Tuesday. Pingree, a sophomore, earned his first varsity win and also had a single, double and two RBI. Pingree and Chris Lusignan combined to strike out 12 for the Bobcats (1-1).
H.S. softball
• Old Lyme beat Westbrook 20-0 in a Shoreline Conference game that ended on a mercy rule in the fifth inning. Emma Bayor struck out all nine batters she faced and combined with Jamie Bucior on a one-hitter. Bayor doubled twice and drove in four runs, Jenna Schauder scored four runs and drove in three, Sybil Neary had three hits and three RBI and Olivia Kelly had three hits, drove in four runs and scored three times for the Wildcats (2-0, 2-0).
Boys’ tennis
• Will Albrikes, Andres Sardar, Charlie Gempp and Evan Whitten won singles matches in Fitch’s 7-0 victory over Killingly. The teams of Ryan Mignosa/Michael McBride, Morgan Fisher/Nick Sousa and Andre Nickerson/Michael Patropoulus earned doubles victories.
Girls’ tennis
• Old Lyme won all seven matches 6-0, 6-0 in a 7-0 victory over North Branford in the Shoreline Conference. Sam Tan, Elaina Morosky, Callie Bass and Katherine Zhang won singles matches for the Wildcats (2-0, 2-0) and the teams of Livie Bass/Alexis Fenton, Aggie Hunt/Beatrice Hunt and Izzy Reynolds/Kyla Sinski added doubles wins.
Girls’ lacrosse
• Emily Aviles scored five goals as beat Griswold beat Law 14-13. Sienna Caron had four goals and 12 draw controls, Keira Fleming had three goals, Kaylin Stockwell and Alexis Emanuele had a goal each and Taylor Roberts had four saves for the Wolverines 1-1).
Boys’ lacrosse
• Tyler Gagliardi and Cody DeLaurentis each had three goals and an assist as Williams School opened its season Tuesday with an 8-3 win over Wooster. Brian Li added two goals for the Blues while Finn McGann had three assists.
• Logan Jenkins had six goals and an assist as NFA beat Ledyard-Griswold 18-0 Tuesday. Anthony Ballestrini and Cortlan Beetle each had three goals and an assist and Conor Dempsey had two goals for the Wildcats (1-1). Ledyard-Griswold is 0-1.
Boys’ volleyball
• Paul Ericson had 28 assists as NFA beat Academy of Science & Innovation 25-16, 25-13, 25-15. Keegan Johnston had eight kills and four digs for NFA (1-1) and Gage Hinkley added seven kills.
• Norwich Tech beat HMTCA 3-1 in a Connecticut Technical Conference match, winning 25-21, 25-19, 19-25, 25-16. Tenzin Samten had 10 digs and seven aces and Luis Santiago had six kills, two blocks and four aces for the Warriors (1-1, 1-1).
College baseball
• Killingly’s Bo Yaworski’s hit a go-ahead two-run single in the bottom of the eighth as Mitchell rallied past Anna Maria 6-5. Montville’s Dougie Delacruz went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI for the Mariners (17-4) and Angel Galindez had two hits and scored twice.
