Tigers beat the IronBirds 4-1
The Connecticut Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday, snapping a 1-1 tie, and beat the Aberdeen IronBirds 4-1 in a New York-Penn League game at Dodd Stadium in Norwich.
Brett Harrison's two-run triple was the key hit in the eighth. Kasey Coffman had two hits and Cort Powell drove in two runs with a pair of sacrifice flies for the Tigers (27-31).
Tigers starter Joe Mantiply pitched three hitless innings. Johnnie Kirkland (3-2), who blew a save opportunity by allowing a run in the top of the eighth to tie the game, earned the victory. Scott Sitz finished up to get his second save of the season.
The Tigers open a four-game series with the Lowell Spinners tonight. Lowell hosts games tonight and Tuesday and the teams play Wednesday and Thursday at Dodd Stadium. All four games begin at 7:05 p.m.
