Murder mystery spoof: Chelsea Players present "Murder Room"

“The Murder Room,” a parody of Agatha Christie-style murder mysteries, “is done for pure fun — just laughs, no hidden messages.”

So says the Chelsea Players, whose latest production is — you know where this is going — “The Murder Room.” Performances are this weekend and next in the United Congregational Church Hall in Norwich.

The play written by Jack Sharkey centers on the disappearance of one Edward Hollister — and, naturally, there are plenty of suspects. Hollister is newly hitched to a woman who might be after his money. Hollister’s daughter is due home from her time studying at a U.S. college. And Hollister isn’t the only one who vanishes; so does his cat, after drinking some hot cocoa that was supposed to go to Hollister instead.

Directing the Chelsea Players production is George Blair of Norwich. The cast features Fergus Milton of Westerly, Ellen Kellie of Willington, Erica Strickland of Waterford, Richard Weingart of Franklin, Juliana Drainville of Preston, and Brandon Speight of Lisbon. The producer is Tim Moore of Norwich.

“The Murder Room,” United Congregational Church Hall, 87 Broadway, Norwich; runs at 7 p.m. May 5, 11 and 12, and at 3 p.m. May 6 and 13; tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at door, $10 for seniors; klamothe37@gmail.com
