Elisabeth von Trapp performs in Old Lyme

    Elisabeth von Trapp (Contributed)

Singer-musician Elisabeth von Trapp has done three concerts in the past at Saint Ann’s Church in Old Lyme. She returns on Saturday, but this show is different in its purpose: It is called “A Concert for Breath,” and it will raise funds for Yale University’s Lung Cancer Study and Research. All the proceeds of the concert will advance Yale’s research and help people who have non-small cell lung cancer.

What inspired this benefit is the fact that Eleanor Robinson, a Saint Ann’s parishioner, has been battling non-small cell lung cancer (she wasn’t a smoker). During part of the concert, von Trapp will perform with members of Saint Ann’s choir, who will sing for the cure in honor of Robinson.

Von Trapp’s family, of course, inspired “The Sound of Music.” Elisabeth von Trapp performs a range of material that, depending on the concert, can run from pop tunes like “Whiter Shade of Pale” to her own compositions to “Edelweiss.” She has released five albums and has been featured on everything from “Good Morning America” to BBC-TV.

Concert-goers can attend a post-show reception with von Trapp.

Elisabeth von Trapp, 7 p.m. Saturday, Saint Ann’s Church, 82 Shore Road (Route 156), Old Lyme; admission is a suggested donation of $20 per person, $10 for seniors; saintannsoldlyme.org.
