Guitarist Jensen to record Sunday's Savoy Bookshop concert
Yes, we all know Robert Johnson met the Crimson Imp at a Mississippi crossroads and bartered his soul in exchange for blues greatness.
Forgive me, then, if I ponder whether Thor Jensen might, under a baleful midnight moon, have lugged his guitar and a Ouija board to the Cimetiere de Samois-sur-Seine in France and, at the site of Django Reinhardt's tomb, cast a few musical spells.
Or maybe Jensen's just singularly gifted and driven.
You know him, of course. Jensen, a former local now living in New York, co-founded Incognito Sofa Love and toured with Quiet Life before joining Stephane Wrembel's touring band. And, however it happened, Jensen's brand of post-Gypsy guitar jazz is particularly wonderful. On Sunday, you have a fine opportunity when Jensen visits the Savoy Bookshop & Cafe for a show. Even better? The concert is part of a series Savoy has been hosting. The gig will be recorded, filmed and mixed by Storm and Arrow Productions for future release, and a copy of the performance is included in the ticket price.
A word to the wise, though: This event is limited to 80 people, so reservations are a good idea.
Thor Jensen, 6 p.m. Sunday, Savoy Bookshop & Cafe, 10n Canal St., Westerly; $25 includes digital download of performance; (401) 213-3901, banksquarebooks.com.
