Wolf Den welcomes BS&T Friday, Marshall Tucker Saturday

Few musicians start bands worrying about logistics like "How are we gonna do this in 40 years?"

Some will retire or die or become accountants or form newer bands or decide they hate each other or ... But does that preclude the idea that some of the original members might want to keep going?

History has demonstrated there are plenty of possibilities based around those speculations. Consider a back-to-back set of concert this weekend at the Wolf Den in Mohegan Sun. On Friday, seminal horn-rock band Blood, Sweat & Tears plays. Over their history, literally over 170 musicians have been members of BS&T. That's not a typo. And NONE of the original members are still around. Still, there's a pass-the-torch sort of transition that suggests versions of "Spinning Wheel," "And When I Die," "You've Made Me So Very Happy" and "Go Down Gambling" will, ah, sound like the real thing. I guess it IS the real thing.

Now, on Saturday, when the Marshall Tucker Band plays, at least they can say that original vocalist Doug Gray is still onboard. He'll lead the latest version of the band, which has only included about three-dozen players over their existence. And, yes, "Heard It in a Love Song," "Can't You See," "This Ol' Cowboy" and "Take the Highway" will sound just as wonderful as you remembered.
