Kool & the Gang, The O'Jays share a Saturday bill at Foxwoods

No one at Foxwoods asked me. Robert "Kool" Bell didn't send me any emails about it. And none of the O'Jay brothers checked in, either. (Actually, there AREN'T any O'Jay brothers. The O'Jays were named in tribute to a disc jockey.)

The point is, The O'Jays and Kool & the Gang — two of the finest soul band/hit generators ever — share a bill Saturday at the Grand Theater at Foxwoods. If it were up to me — as above, it's not — I'd have both acts onstage, dueling in bracket fashion. Each band would play a hit, then I'd decide which song was better. Then each band would play another hit, and I'd decide again — and on and on through their collective 617 chart smashes.

If that happened, I'm predicting what many might consider a longshot winner in "Fresh" by Kool & the Gang. But hold on! Maybe it would be "Back Stabbers" by the O'Jays. Or their "Love Train." OR ... Kool's "Get Down On It." Hell, YOU decide.

Can't do it, can you? Too many great ones ...

The O'Jays and Kool & the Gang, 8 p.m. Saturday, Grand Theater, Foxwoods; $45-$65; 1-800-200-2882.
