Everybody needs Straight to VHS, right? The area's enduring garage pop meisters are back with their latest album, "Friend Music," and want you to be part of the celebration.

The release party takes place from 6-9 p.m. Saturday in the Thames Lounge — upstairs from Thames Wine & Spirits — and, in a fashion typical of the VHS-ers, don't expect the usual "release" soiree. The trio — Jay Silva, Tim Donnell and Jon Young — will present multi-media fun including song videos, video shorts and "artsty things to spice up the event" before cueing up the stereo to play the whole album for your thirsty ears.

Who knows? The band may strap on some acoustic instruments for impromptu performance at some point. Food and drinks will be provided, and donations are appreciated. The Thames Lounge is located at 70 State St., New London. Search Facebook Events for Straight to VHS.
