David Wax Museum hits the Knick Saturday

David Wax and Suz Slezak, left, of David Wax Museum (Anthony Mulcahy)

A quick observation before we get to specifics in this bet.

Do you think David Wax is happy his last name isn't Leprosy? And if it was, would he have called his Americana band the David Leprosy Museum? There IS a real leprosy museum, by the way. It's in Norway and my boss Kristy Dorsey went to Norway last year and was supposed to bring me a Leprosy Museum T-shirt but it didn't work out.

Well, I feel certain that I can bring Kristy some David Wax Museum merch since the very fine group — led by Wax and his life partner Suz Slezak — perform Saturday in the Knickerbocker Music Center in Westerly. The band's on the road behind their latest, "Line of Light," which is just a great and very distinctive sounding record. There's a country touch but also some atmospheric pop, Euro-synth, and fine hook-craft. Oh, and some south-of-the-border seasoning. And chiming guitar rock. And ... well, that's enough for now.

One more funny joke. If the David Wax Museum really wants to appear wax-like onstage, they should just impersonate a Cars concert.

David Wax Museum, 8 p.m. Saturday, Knickerbocker Music Center, 35 Railroad Ave., Westerly; $15 advance, $20 door; (401) 315-5070.
