Multi-platinum solo artist Hozier sings Friday at Foxwoods

    Hozier (Amy Harris, Invision/AP)

Having attended Baylor University — the largest private Baptist college in the galaxy — and having not really enjoyed it much, I'm a bit reluctant anytime someone sings a song with a title like "Take Me to Church."

I'm inclined to sing louder, one of my own compositions called, "No, Let's Don't Go to Church."

The fact is, I didn't really write a song like that, and the fact is that the Irish musician known as Hozier DID write a song called "Take Me to Church." You've probably heard it since it sold untold millions of copies, leading to six-times-platinum sales of his subesequent first album, "Hozier." Earlier this year, Hozier released the "Wasteland, Baby!" record — I'd argue that he's still talking about Baylor, but what do I know? — and it immediately stormed to the top of the Billboard charts.

All these sales suggest you definitely know who Hozier is, and you probably like him. And you know he's got that Mister Positive But Gentle Energy vibe going on and an expressive and warm voice that recalls everyone from James Bay to Bob Marley.

If you dig all this then, yes, you've probably already got your tickets to his Friday show at the Grand Theater in Foxwoods.

Hozier, 8 p.m. Friday, Grand Theater, Foxwoods; Angie McMahon opens the show; $39-$79; 1-800-200-2882.
