The legendary Peter Asher performs at the Kate

    Peter Asher (Contributed)

A lot of great musicians come through the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, but Peter Asher & Company is special even by those standards.

Asher is a legendary producer, best known for his work with Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor. Oh, and he was A&R director for Apple Records, the company founded by The Beatles.

Asher had hits as an artist, too, as part of Peter & Gordon during the British Invasion.

He’ll be playing the Katharine Hepburn Center on Friday and Saturday with Kate Taylor. Asher produced her debut almost 50 years ago as well as her new album, “Why Wait,” to be released on Aug. 6. (And, yes, Kate Taylor is sister of James Taylor.)

Joining them on that record and live at the Kate will be guitar icon Albert Lee and renowned bassist Leland Sklar. On hand, too: acoustic guitarist and vocalist Bill Cinque (Neil Diamond band), vocalist Cara Lee (Bill Medley), drummer Steve Holley (Paul McCartney and Wings) and Jeff Alan Ross (ex-Badfinger).

Peter Asher & Company, 8 p.m. Fri. and 2 p.m. Sat., Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $60; (860) 510-0453.
