Franklins do Steely Dan and more Saturday in the Phoenix
There's a reason a lot of established touring acts throw cover material into their sets: Because, at heart, no matter how successful the star might be, he/she/they are STILL fans of the groups that inspired them to begin with.
This works on a club level, too. You might well be a fan of the Franklin Brothers, for example, and love their original tunes. But when the Franklins crank into a set of Steely Dan songs — THEIR primary influence — the effect is pretty magical.
On Saturday, the Franklin Brothers Band return to the Phoenix in Pawcatuck an entire set of tunes by the Dan followed by a second show of originals and period pieces guaranteed to check all the right Nostalgia boxes. Oh, and look for Braiden Sunshine to show up and help out.
Franklin Brothers Band, 7 p.m. Sat., The Phoenix, 215 Liberty St., Pawcatuck; $10; (860) 885-4551.
