What good is sitting alone in your room?

Hasn't that lyric resonated with quarantine-weary folks over the past two years? Well, the world is getting back to business, if not as usual then as close as we've been in a while, and we don't have to sit alone in our rooms anymore.

Which brings us to Goodspeed Musicals, which is staging a full season of musicals for the first time since the pandemic began.

And the first show is the one boasting that aforementioned lyric: "Cabaret."

The show opens Friday and is directed by James Vasquez, a resident artist of The Old Globe Theatre.

Starring in this Kander/Ebb/Masteroff classic as the Master of Ceremonies is Jelani Remy. Remy made his Broadway debut as Simba in "The Lion King" and recently played Eddie Kendricks in "Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations!"

Also leading the cast are Aline Mayagoitia, whose off-Broadway credits include "Notes from Now" and "Forbidden Broadway: The Next Generation," as Sally Bowles, and Bruce Landry, "Les Miserables" and "Anastasia the Musical" on Broadway, as Clifford Bradshaw.

    “Cabaret,” The Goodspeed, 6 Main St., East Haddam; runs May 13-July 3; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Wed., 7:30 p.m. Thurs., 8 p.m. Fri., 3 and 8 p.m. Sat., and 2 p.m. Sun.; also 2 p.m. shows on select Thursdays and Sundays; tickets start at $30; (860) 873-8668.
