Public Hearings On Edgerton School Project Postponed

New London - Due to a typo in a public advertisement, the Planning and Zoning Commission will not be hearing a pair of zoning requests from Edgerton School developer Peter Levine at Tuesday’s special meeting.

Levine, a White Plains, N.Y, developer, needs the council to grant the requests before he can submit plans for a proposal to build 32 affordable townhomes on the site of the 52-year-old school.

Public hearings on both requests have been rescheduled for the commission’s regular 7 p.m.  meeting on May 1.

Levine is asking the commission to slightly redraw the zoning boundary of the roughly 4.5-acre property, which he is under a contract to buy from the city for $325,000. Levine will also ask the commission to relax the 50-foot-setback requirement for cluster developments so he can fit the 32 homes on the parcel.

The commission will still hold a special meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday to hear several smaller items, including requests that were tabled at the March 20 meeting. The commission has cancelled its April 17 regular meeting.
