Prison porn ban headed to Connecticut next year

HARTFORD (AP) — Connecticut inmates will no longer be able to possess pornography as of this time next year.

Department of Correction Commissioner Leo Arnone announced on Monday that he's informed inmates that possession of sexually explicit material will be banned in the state's prisons as of June 30, 2012.

Offenders are being given a year to let their current subscriptions expire and to dispose of any material they currently possess.

Under current rules, inmates can have sexually explicit material as long as it does not depict children, bestiality, sado-masochism or the use of force.

Arnone said his agency has reviewed how other states handle porn inside their prisons. He said an overall ban is the most appropriate approach.
