Napier heads to tryouts, Oriakhi leaves

UConn sophomore Shabazz Napier has been selected to try out for the USA Basketball Men's World University Games team.

Teammate Alex Oriakhi also had received an invitation but decided to withdraw from tryouts. A report surfaced that Oriakhi is injured, but that's not the case, according to UConn spokesman Kyle Muncy.

Napier will be one of 21 players attempting to make the team. Training camp opens Friday and runs through Aug. 7 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Last season Napier averaged 7.8 points, 3.0 assists and 1.6 steals while helping UConn win a national championship. He made the All-Big East rookie team.

USA Basketball will select 12 players to compete at the 2011 World University Games Aug. 13-22 in Shenzhen, China.
