    Millstone cyber-security plan approved

Federal regulators have approved a cyber-security plan for the Millstone Power Station in Waterford.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission found that Millstone's program, which covers emergency preparedness, off-site communications and equipment, provides "high assurance that digital computer and communication systems and networks ... are adequately protected against cyber-attacks."

After the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the NRC advised reactor owners on enhancing cyber-security. By 2009, the NRC required owners to identify critical digital assets, establish a protective "defensive architecture" and apply security controls to them. Millstone owner Dominion submitted its plan then, and revised it following an NRC technical review.
