Revenge: What a Great Name for a Naval Warship

    Is it the Revenge?

Joe Wojtas  reports here that the Navy has been out at the reef at Watch Hill checking to see if the wreck of a schooner found there by local divers is indeed theirs: the Revenge, once under the command of Oliver Hazard Perry. If it is, consider a beer salute to the local divers, including Charlie Buffum, owner of Cottrell Brewing in Pawcatuck. And make that a Cottrell.

Wow. Michael Passero, New London City Council President, says in a story today by Kathleen Edgecomb that the Mayor never gave to the council the breakdown of how much the police retirements were going to cost the city. He said he had to get the numbers from the reporter writing the story.

Passero said Tuesday that an explanation of the contracts and an overview of the financial impact of the retirements have never been provided.

"The numbers that she's giving you, she's never given them to the council,'' he said of (the personnel director)

So that's how the "new government" works? If I were on the council, I might look for revenge.

More good news today ... a story by Joe Wojtas reports the The Trust for Public Land and the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center have reached a preliminary agreement to purchase 34 acres of the 63-acre Coogan Farm so it can be preserved as open space. The purchase is part of the development of  a new assisted living project on the old farm that could become the second largest taxpayer in town. It's a great twofer: New tax money and open space for recreation.
